HERBS AND REMEDIES FOR
MEMORY AND BRAIN STIMULATION
Apparently, testing your brain daily will keep your brain younger longer. Try a crossword or sudoku puzzle. Even watching quizz programmes on the television may help - anything for stimulation.
The new Wi console has been used in retirement homes to improve/upkeep coordination skills for pensioners. The games also offer a little necessary exercise.
GINGKO BILOBA
Gingko Biloba is a herb with antioxidant properties. By giving tone and elasticity to blood vessels, it boosts circulation to the brain. Take 120mg daily.
NOTE: Consult your GP if taking blood-thinning or blood pressure medication.
PEPPERMINT
Peppermint tea can be used for a pick-me-up when you need an instant boost to your brain. Lemon Balm tea will also stimulate brain and memory.
WINE
Drinking one or two small glasses of wine (especially red) each day is associated with substantial lower risk of Alzheimers and keeps the brain young.
FOLATE
Older people with low levels of folate in their diet have more memory problems - eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and citrus fruit daily.
BLACKCURRANTS
Eat dark red and purple berries. Blackcurrants may help fight problems leading to Alzheimers.
TOOTH FILLINGS
There has recently been a great deal of controversy over the fact that amalgam fillings in our teeth, which contain mercury - one of the most dangerous substances in the world, may be leading or contributing to Alzeimers. Scandinavian countries will shortly be banning their use. Apparently, the more fillings you have, the bigger the possible impact on your health. Some people have decided to have existing fillings replaced with white non toxic ones. If you do need more fillings in the future - opt for the white ones.
